A little preview of the Van Dalen Christmas Eve

Well we definitely woke up to a white Christmas Eve! This was the view out our front windows of our front patio

Winter Wonderland!!!

Bree Erin with her popcorn ball and...Taylor in the background being wierd as usual
James was the man of the hour with the little cousins! I think he was getting quite the leg workout lol
Brock, Kali & Weston all SMILES!!!
Brock was liking Kali's scooter
And Kali's new toy: "Pop goes the Weasle" (Or a worm as Taylor and I thought because it was in an apple, but Brock said it was a bear :)
Guela and the "not so little" little ones playing Uno!
What a great night! I think we were all thankful for Shane and Amy to open up their house once again! The food was delicious as always and the company was hilarious! Paul was able to make it from California which added to a great night full of singing Christmas carols that we didn't know all the words too, passing around the "candle" saying what were thankful for and of course sharing many laughs! I cannot truly say how thankful I am for this family, I love you all!
Check out everyone else's blogs soon for more pictures, I saw everybody with their cameras out :) Merry Christmas!

Another Dutch Tradition

I woke up Christmas Eve just in time to help my mom make ole boilens, a receipe handed down from Grandma Scholten. The dough was already risen so I missed that part of it but I got pics of the rest of the process :)
Before--the dough all ready to go!
Ready...set...BAKE!
Trying to make sure the oil stayed at the right temperature-a very important part of this recipe
The first batch!
Trying not to get any drips coming off the spoon lol
My mom: the pro and a great teacher!
The finished product cooling :) yum!!!

A little of everything from the last week

Sorry guys I've been meaning to update for awhile now, so there's a lot of random ones and its kinda long, but bare with me :)
Poor Brock, part of winter is getting bundled up everytime he goes outside, and of course getting picked up from Linda's by Auntie Chelsea was no different! He could barely move lol

Cuddling in Shannon's fuzzy blanket after the Scholten Christmas party
Pretending to "sleep" because it was dark outside (so cute!)
When I was babysitting Brock, when I came in from running Toby this is how I found Brock, all cuddled up on the couch!
When I asked him what he was doing he simply replied, "I'm just thinking."
Doing puzzles with Auntie Chelsea on the kitchen floor :)

Lots of good bonding time with the little man while I'm on break :)
(We kind of matched too!)

BATH TIME!!! (With ALL the letters of course!)
Future model maybe???

So serious! I cannot wait to see him as a big brother soon!
All bundled up and ready to go pick Shannon up from work
LOVE this one, such a cheeser!

Its beginning to look a lot like Christmas...

The last two daughters at home decorating the tree...but not for much longer

And the stockings were hung...
Ginger didn't quite know what was happening she was having fun playing with the tissue paper and the plastic bag apparently lol it wass pretty cute

Tradition at SPU

So last Friday was SPU's early Christmas celebration called Tradition and it is all set up down in Tiffany Loop. One rule in order to attend this lovely holiday event is dressing up in tacky Christmas sweaters or any Christman apparel that you can come up with :) After "No Shave November" most of the guys have beards and mustaches going (scary I know) but its a great break from studying before finals week! Its full of cookies, hot cider, face painting, story time (yes even in college), carriage rides, pictures with Santa, and so much more! Plus its open to community members and their kids and professors and their families so its full of Christmas cheer and lots of people running around!
This year's theme was "It's a Wonderful Life" and they even had a frame for taking "family" portraits :) Here's my roommate Emily and I its a little blurry sorry guys

Some more love from girls from my floor last year

Love these girls!
Sara, me and Stacey DeJong all dressed up :)
They even had a live nativity, in this picture it was our Ashton Hall Council. I don't think the Angel knew I was taking the picture (my roommate Brittany from last year whose now my neighbor :) with the other Brittany on our floor who was Mary!

My lovely and so entertaining neighbor - also Brittany
After Tradition, our dorm has a tradition too....Ashton Skate! They rent out a ice skating rink for a few hours and we get to enjoy the rest of our night on the ice! Have to admit I was a little sore in the morning but it was so worth it!
*Some of the girls from my floor this year*
I'm so thankful to have these girls in my life! They are so close to me, (literally their room is right below ours :) but we all had Anatomy & Physiology together this quarter, so that made it so much better! We were all going through the same struggles but we made it through! Its a 2 qtr sequence so we'll have it in the winter too :)

I'm glad to say I have one quarter down this year! I took a Christian Scriptures class and it was so amazing! I loved studing the books of the Bible and many of the stories it contains :) I learned a ton about being a disciple of Christ and about the Bible in general. I was so blessed to have AMAZING professors this quarter too, it truly makes a difference! I'm glad to be home for the holidays though! Shannon and I decorated the tree tonight so I'll have to get some pictures of that up later :)

Brock and Auntie Chelsea Time!

First, I was so thankful that Tasha, Shannon & Brock came to pick me up from SPU on Wednesday because Brock could finally see where I live when I'm in Seattle and he was super excited to use "Chelsea's potty" :) Before going home we went to the Woodland Park Zoo and had a great afternoon and Brock was able to run around for a few hours so that was good :)
But when I babysat Brock on Saturday he thoroughly enjoyed watching my fish that I had brought home from school. My rommate Emily and I got them for our room and as you can tell Brock just LOVED them :)

He was quite fascinated and asked lots of questions - notice the intense concentration....

Then he was cracking up everytime they moved, kind of a weird picture but its cute

Trying to get this man to look at the camera is difficult! But at least he was laughing about it :)

AND....watching a little John Derre with his John Deere blanket of course (notice the shirt?)

One of the other nights I was at his house, after his bath :)
I LOVE YOU Brock!
